自序 : 學英文講求一種「Feel」！

要怎麼做才能把英文學好呢？

如果想要自然地用英文對話，就要避免直接把中文翻成英文，而是學習英文母語者慣用的表達法。比起艱澀的單字，英文母語者更常用慣用語（idioms）和片語動詞（phrasal verbs）來表達自己的意思。如果光知道很多單字，卻不懂得運用慣用語及片語動詞的話，不但很難確切理解母語者所說的話，說英文也無法達到母語者的境界。

語言反映著文化與生活，因此本書將從美國文化、慣用語、俚語、會話文法，及台灣人容易犯的錯誤對症下藥。打破傳統文法、會話分科學習，將文法實際融入生活會話中，讓你講英文就像母語人士自然流利。

如果你以為 Get outta here! 只是「滾出去！」，那就得專心看下去囉。在美國 Get outta here! 還有「在說什麼東西！」、「開什麼玩笑？」、「別搞笑了好嗎！」等涵義，與 You’ve got to be kidding me. 相似，但是語氣更強烈。原句是 Get out of here.，母語人士習慣把 want to 唸成 wanna，going to 唸成 gonna，也會將 out of 連音成 outta。因此，連音是聽懂母語者、提升口說流利度的關鍵。

SLANG I don’t buy the crap.
buy 除了「買」的意思外，也有「相信，接受」的意思。I don’t buy it. 是「我才不相信」，等同於 I don’t believe it.。crap 有「大便」的意思，所以 I don’t buy the crap. 就是「我才不信那種鬼話」的意思。

EXPRESSION You’ve got to be kidding me!
You’ve got to be kidding! / You kidding! / Are you kidding? / You are kidding me! 可以在無言以對的狀況下，表示「開什麼玩笑？」、「太扯了」等意思。kidding 也可以用 joking 來替換。

EXCLAMATION Psh.
對某事感到無奈或是不同意對方意見時可以做出的反應，但也可能顯得失禮，使用上要注意。
Psh! Shut up! 噗！不要搞笑好嗎！

IDIOM Wake up and smell the coffee.
想叫那些滿腦子白日夢、不切實際的人清醒點？就跟他說「醒來聞聞咖啡的味道」。
Wake up and smell the coffee! The reality is cruel.
清醒點吧！現實是很殘酷的。

EXPRESSION Prince Charming
戲劇中經常出現帥氣迷人的「白馬王子」，用英文說就是 Prince Charming。這個用法也有出現在1950年的迪士尼動畫《仙履奇緣》中。

他是我的白馬王子！

Day 2　Grass is always greener on the other side 外國的月亮比較圓
「另一邊的草總是比較綠」，也就是「別人碗裡的東西看起來特別好吃」的意思。不容易從自己的生活中獲得滿足，這種感覺不分東、西方，任何人都會有。當身邊的人對生活有所抱怨，或是將自己與他人做比較而感到心情低落時，就告訴他「Grass is always greener on the other side」吧。

What’s up? 可以當作 How are you? 打招呼用語，也經常用來表示「怎麼回事？」或「幹嘛這樣？」的意思。拼法有 Wazzup? / Wassup? / Waddup?，也可以縮讀為 ’Sup?。

怎麼了？有什麼問題嗎？

Why the long face?
可別以為別人是在說「臉為什麼那麼長？」，這句俚語是用來詢問對方「為什麼看起來鬱鬱寡歡的？」或是「為什麼看起來有什麼不滿？」。
Why the long face? You look like you are gonna burst into tears.
為什麼一臉難過的樣子？你看起來快哭了。

everyone、everybody 後面要接「單數動詞」，every 接「單數名詞 + 單數動詞」。
Everyone has a perfect life.
大家都有完美的生活。

IG 上所有人看起來都好快樂。

什麼都好吃！
Every single person regardless of gender, age and race needs to be respected.
無論性別、年齡、種族，每個人都應該受到尊重。

TAIGLISH social media 正確念法
IG 是台式英文！雖然 Instagram 縮寫 IG，但英文母語者習慣說 Insta／the Gram。Facebook 縮寫 FB，但是外國人只會完整說出全名 Facebook。因此不要再說「哀居」、「F逼」 了！

MOST MISTAKEN「我最近過得好累」用英文怎麼說？
有用過 I’m hard. 說自己過得很辛苦的人請舉手。在我聽過的錯誤裡，沒有什麼比這更令人傻眼了。hard 的確可以用來表示「困難的、辛苦的」，但可別忘了它也有「硬的」意思。所以 I’m hard. 其實是「我硬了」☻，這可說是最尷尬的錯誤了。正確的說法：I’m going through a very difficult time (in my life). 也可以用 I’ve been going through tough/rough times.。
