作者介紹 林明理〈1961-〉，臺灣雲林縣人，法學碩士、美國世界文化藝術學院榮譽文學博士，曾任教於大學，詩人評論家，著有詩集，散文、詩歌評論等文學專著41本、包含義大利合著的譯詩集，作品發表於報刊及學術期刊等已逾兩千五百篇。

《沿著海岸公路，滾白浪花千片，海天一色，流雲在廣闊無垠的天空漫遊。
車過東河新橋，眺望到出海口。有時，一艘漁船劃開波濤，在深邃的藍海上馳騁。山巔、岩石、椰林、涼亭，各種顏色、各種芳香的大樹在窗後掠過；看它們高聳入雲，頗有南洋熱帶的氛圍。路邊的花兒在樹下交錯，在水溝旁攀緣，鄉間小路有笠農在忙著搬運……
車過溪橋，越過山邊與聚落，抵達花蓮和南寺。
這座佛寺承襲廣欽上人的法脈，是1967年開山住持傳慶老和尚到此修行所建。拾級而上，彷佛是山色海景中的畫廊，建築風格靜穆而不華麗。
風在林中嬉戲，麻雀從枝上飛下來，在綠地躑躅。
寺前可遠望太平洋及山腳下的禾田，山巒上聳立一尊造福觀音塑像，是傳慶禪師與雕塑大師楊英風 合力完成的。藝文中心前有許多媒體在場等候，見證這歷史性的一刻。
這是我第三次造訪和南寺。不變的是，啁啾的鳥鳴、不知名的昆蟲——處處都有大自然的惠贈，讓這裡充滿一種親切而粗獷的和諧，卻富有美麗的變化。
11月6日，第三十五屆世詩會在花蓮舉辦，這是一年之中和南寺最光耀的日子。由於偶然的機緣，來自世界二十八國的詩人將在這裡共聚朗讀與音樂的美好時光。
大會嘉賓如雲，共有170位國際詩人與各國使節等數百人來台。又與1985年諾貝爾和平獎得主Prof. Ernesto Kahan再次相見，他和另一位印度著名雙語詩人Jacob Isaac最近合著一本英文詩集《Suggestion》，廣受好評。我們互贈詩集，有意想不到的歡愉。
有什麼東西比這相遇的片刻更加感動呢？能親近地聚集一堂，甚至語言不通也不是距離。
歸途，雨珠像璀璨的鑽石在腳下閃閃發光……遠山迷濛，原生林木森嚴茂密，沿路清靜，幽寂。同是山海風韻，這裡的海岸線更像一曲北方的牧謠。岩壁，還有茂盛的植物，所有這些，都帶著無盡的思念。
回頭望去，城市的燈火也逐漸消失了……而在前方，夜雨編織著密實的網，昏暗的路燈顯得那麼孤獨，那麼遙遠，似乎是在天涯之外。

Beyond the Ends of the Earth ◎Lin Ming-Li
Along the coastal highway, whitecaps roll in, the sea and sky blend seamlessly, drifting clouds are wandering across the vast expanse.
Crossing the Donghe New Bridge, one can see the estuary. Sometimes, a fishing boat cuts through the waves, speeding across the deep blue sea. Mountain peaks, rocks, coconut groves, pavilions — trees of various colors and fragrances flash past the window. The sight of them soaring into the clouds evokes the atmosphere of the tropical South Pacific. Flowers intertwine beneath the trees and climb along the ditches, when farmers are busily transporting goods along country lanes….
The car crosses a stream bridge, traverses mountains and settlements, arriving at Hualien and Henan Temple.
This Buddhist temple, inheriting the lineage of Master Guangqin, was built in 1967 by Venerable Chuan Ching, the founding abbot, who comes here to practice. Climbing the steps, it feels like entering a gallery amidst mountain and sea views; the architectural style is serene and unpretentious.
The wind plays in the woods, and sparrows flutter down from the branches, hopping about on the green grass.
From the temple, one can see the Pacific Ocean and the rice paddies at the foot of the mountain. Atop the mountain stands a statue of Guanyin, a collaborative work by Chan Master Chuanqing and Master Sculptor Yuyu Yang. Many media outlets are waiting in front of the arts center to witness this historic moment.
This is my third visit to Henan Temple. What remains unchanged is the chirping of birds and the buzzing of unidentified insects — nature’s gifts everywhere, filling this place with a warm, rugged harmony, rich in beautiful variations.
On November 6th, the 35th World Poetry Congress was held in Hualien, the most glorious day of the year at He Nan Temple. By chance, poets from 28 countries around the world gather here for a wonderful time of reading and music.
The congress has been attended by a distinguished number of guests,
including 170 international poets and hundreds of ambassadors from various countries. I meet again with Prof. Ernesto Kahan, the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. He and another renowned Indian bilingual poet, Jacob Isaac, recently co-author a highly acclaimed English poetry collection titled “Suggestion”. We exchange poetry collections, which is a delightful surprise.
What can be more moving than this brief encounter? To be able to gather so intimately, even language barriers fading into intimacy.
On the way home, raindrops sparkle like glittering diamonds beneath my feet… The distant mountains are shrouded in mist, the primeval forests dense and lush, the roadside quiet and serene. While both are landscapes of mountains and sea, the coastline here feels more like a northern pastoral melody. The rocky cliffs and the lush vegetation — all these carry endless longing.
Looking back, the city lights are gradually disappearing…; ahead, the night rain weaves a dense net, making the dim streetlights appear so lonely, so distant, as if they were at the ends of the earth.
