內容簡介
The night air was sharp, the cold biting at Mercedes' bare feet as an officer led her outside into the falling snow. The world around her felt distant and unreal--harsh fluorescent lights reflecting off icy sidewalks, the low hum of police radios, and murmurs of guarded voices in the background. She didn't understand how she had ended up here, handcuffed and vulnerable, stripped of everything familiar.
Inside the courtroom, under the heavy gaze of the judge and the silent stare of strangers, Mercedes heard words that echoed in her chest like thunder: first-degree murder. No bond. The weight of the accusation crushed the air from her lungs, leaving only shock and tears as she was escorted away. The faces around her were filled with curiosity and judgment, as if she were an exhibit to be dissected rather than a person in pain.
Back in the confines of the Cecil County Jail, whispers followed her every step. Other inmates surrounded her, their questions sharp and relentless.
"Why did you do it?" they demanded.
She met their eyes with steel and defiance. I didn't kill anybody, she wanted to scream, but the truth felt fragile in a place built on suspicion.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me... to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind.
Though the outside world doubted her and her future was uncertain, she felt a growing strength--a quiet assurance that this chapter was not the end of her story. That somewhere beyond the bars, God was tending the seed planted deep within her soul, preparing it to grow.
And somewhere beyond the cold, beyond the fear and the accusations, she held onto hope--hope that truth would be her freedom and that one day she would walk out of those doors not as a prisoner, but as a survivor.
