His characters are consumed by longing, boredom caused by marital routine, jealousy, and infidelity. Among other figures, we encounter a husband who wakes up every day next to his wife, only to realize that he no longer desires her as he once did; a man who jealously watches his wife from a distance as she spends time with strangers who seem to seduce her, and a woman who writes a list of grievances in which she reproaches her husband for having stopped loving her. Melancholy and awareness of the passage of time are the driving forces behind this literary universe, created with painful lucidity by its author, in which drug trafficking and violence burst in as constant reminders of our turbulent reality. 作者介紹
Héctor Abad Faciolince. Nació en Medellín (Colombia), en 1958. Estudió Lenguas y Literaturas Modernas en la Universidad de Turín (Italia). Además de ensayos, traducciones y críticas literarias, ha publicado, entre otros, los siguientes libros: Asuntos de un hidalgo disoluto, Tratado de culinaria para mujeres tristes, Fragmentos de amor furtivo, Angosta, El olvido que seremos, La Oculta, Lo que fue presente y Salvo mi corazón, todo está bien. Con su tercera novela, Basura, obtuvo en España el I Premio Casa de América de Narrativa Innovadora. Ha publicado también un libro de poemas, Testamento involuntario; uno de ensayos, Las formas de la pereza, y otro de narrativa, Traiciones de la memoria. De sus libros hay traducciones a más de quince idiomas.
