RAQUEL WILLIS (she/her) is a writer, activist, and media strategist dedicated to collective liberation. She is the co-founder of the Gender Liberation Movement, a national organization fighting for bodily autonomy, self-determination, and the pursuit of fulfillment for all. Raquel made history as the first openly Black transgender
woman to hold a senior editorial role at a major U.S. magazine (Out, executive editor), and later as director of communications at the Ms. Foundation for Women. She has also worked as a national organizer for the Transgender Law Center, and her writing appears in Black Futures, edited by Kimberly Drew and Jenna Wortham, and Four Hundred Souls, edited by Ibram X. Kendi and Keisha N. Blain. Her multimedia storytelling has earned her multiple GLAAD Media Awards, as well as recognition from ADCOLOR and the National Association of Black Journalists. She was awarded the LGBTQ+ Nonfiction Best Book Award in 2024. In 2025, she was honored as one of TIME's Women of the Year and named to the TIME 100 Most Influential People list. This is her first book.
