內容簡介
內容簡介 Discover even more of Maine's beloved reading culture in this joyful follow-up to Where Maine Reads--a celebration of the inclusive literary community that makes the Pine Tree State so special. What makes Maine's reading culture unique? It's the way books bring together book club members and librarians, teachers and artists, sports coaches and nonprofit directors, politicians and poets. In Maine, everyone has a story about their favorite reading spot, and everyone's voice matters in the conversation about books. Maine's Still Reading features 50 new portraits by photographer Buddy Doyle, capturing Mainers of all backgrounds curled up with their latest read in Adirondack chairs by the water, porch hammocks and armchairs in front of the fire. Each portrait includes original reflections from the readers themselves, sharing not just where they read, but why these moments and places matter to them. This volume goes beyond portraits to become your guide to Maine's literary landscape. Discover a complete library "bucket list" featuring over 200 libraries worth visiting across the state, from Kittery to Caribou. Plus, get reading recommendations directly from your fellow Mainers--books that have captured hearts and imaginations throughout the state. Created in partnership with the Maine State Credit Union, this collection continues the tradition of celebrating the simple pleasure of getting lost in a good story--and the Maine communities built around that shared love. Proceeds support the Maine Library Association's statewide literacy initiatives, making every purchase a contribution to keeping Maine reading.
作者介紹
作者介紹 Buddy Doyle left California in 1999 to reunite with his high school sweetheart after 35 years apart. Their story inspired his not yet published memoir Musical Chairs, in which he reflects on finally finding both a seat and someone to share it with in Maine. During his West Coast years, Doyle worked in advertising and design, copywriting, and photography. His career took him across diverse industries--from tourism and finance to food packaging, theater, and Hollywood projects ranging from mainstream to decidedly unconventional. Along the way, he had the privilege of meeting legends like Ansel Adams and Annie Leibovitz, and picked up countless stories (and bar tabs) from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Doyle describes his creative interests as being "all over the lots," and it's in those various lots where he's encountered the fascinating people who inspire his work. Today, he lives on a three-quarter-acre property in Gardiner, Maine, with his wife Geri and their equally fascinating Golden doodle, Riley. He is the author of Where Maine Reads, published in 2024, with the sequel Maine's Still Reading forthcoming from Islandport Press in 2026.
