This is the story of how those names came about, especially the street signs clinging to metal poles on every corner, quietly waiting for their hidden secrets to flourish again in the light of day. In revealing the past, specific questions will be asked. Who named the street sign? Who does the street sign honor? How is the history of the "Valley," as the natives refer to the San Fernando Valley, reflected in these signs? In answering these question, s three epic periods will seek our attention. The period of Spanish influence, followed by Mexico's control of the land, and lastly the advent of Yankee presence in the Golden State.
