One day, the Morales family's old nanny unexpectedly rises from what seemed to be an eternal rest and wanders off into the woods. When she is found, she is holding two small bundles, one in each arm: on one side, a mysterious baby, and on the other, a beehive. At the nanny's insistence, the Morales family decides to adopt the child. Shrouded in a living mantle of bees that will accompany and guide him forever, Simonopio arrives to change the fate of the family that takes him in--and that of an entire region. To fulfill his destiny, he must face his fears, the enemies that lurk nearby, and the great threats of war: the Spanish influenza and the clashes between those who covet other people's land and those determined to defend their own at all costs.
