Originally pressed in a limited run of 1,000 copies by Sapporo Jazz Create and distributed almost entirely through Fukui's own Slowboat jazz club and a handful of Japanese retailers, the album remained a near-mythical artefact for collectors until its wider rediscovery. Here, stripped of any rhythm section, Fukui's hard bop sensibility and his distinctly Hokkaido lyricism are laid bare with extraordinary clarity.The programme is a masterclass in repertoire curation.
