作者介紹 （c. 620 BCE — c. 560 BCE） 伊 索（古希臘語：Αἴσωπος，英文：Aesop）是古希臘著名的寓言作家，常被視為哲學家與文學家，與俄國的克雷洛夫（Ivan Krylov）、法國的拉・封丹（Jean de La Fontaine）、德國的戈特霍爾德・埃弗萊姆・萊辛（Gotthold Ephraim Lessing）並稱為四大寓言作家。 據傳，伊索可能出生於衣索比亞（今埃塞俄比亞地區），後成為薩莫斯島（Samos）雅德蒙家的奴隸，並被轉賣多次。然而，他憑藉淵博的知識和過人的智慧，最終獲得了自由。 伊索以創作寓言故事聞名，這些故事往往蘊含深刻的哲理，廣為流傳。據說他曾遊歷各地，為人們講述這些富有教益的故事。然而，關於他的結局，傳說他在德爾菲（Delphi）遭到殺害，具體原因至今未明。 到了西元前5世紀初，伊索的名字已為古希臘人所熟知，當時許多寓言故事都被歸於他的名下，深受古希臘人民的喜愛。現存的《伊索寓言》並非他親自撰寫，而是後人整理編纂而成，主要依據拜占庭僧侶普拉努得斯（Maximus Planudes）在13世紀搜集的寓言，以詩歌或散文形式結集。此外，後世陸續發現的古希臘及古羅馬寓言也一併收錄其中，並統一歸於伊索名下，成為流傳至今的經典文學作品。
