Black Magic, originally drawn for a fanzine, became Shirow Masamune's professional debut when it was published in 1985. Set in the advanced civilization that once existed on Venus before a runaway greenhouse effect turned Earth's sister planet into a hellscape, Black Magic prefigures many of the concepts of Shirow's later Appleseed, including the emblems of Greek mythology among a technological society, a supercomputer's designs for utopia, and the lethal difference between a tool and its user.

Orion, first released in 1991, is a wild romp through cosmic disaster as the ancient Yamata Empire hatches a scheme to capture all negative karma and destroy it in a mystical reactor. What could go wrong? Literally everything, and the fate of existence comes down to a duel between Susano, the God of Destruction, and the bratty sorceress Seska, who intends to use this crisis to become the all-powerful ruler of the galaxy...which, she hopes, will impress a guy she likes!

Dominion made its debut in 1986. In a future Japan where urban pollution is so bad that people wear gas masks, criminals like Buaku and his gang have to be badder...and cops have to be the baddest. 作者介紹

Shirow Masamune was born in 1961 in Kobe, Japan and attended Osaka University of Arts, where his fellow classmates included Hideaki Anno, the future creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Shirow began his professional manga career in 1985 with Appleseed, which won one of Japan's top prizes for science fiction, the Seiun Award. Dark Horse first began to publish Shirow's work in 1992, beginning with his art book Intron Depot and manga Orion and Dominion, followed in 1995 with the first English edition of his most famous manga series, Ghost in the Shell. In 1996, Shirow was the first manga artist to be featured on the cover of Wizard: The Guide to Comics. Through his futuristic designs, dynamic action sequences and visionary concepts, Shirow has become one the most influential manga artists on international creators, counting among his fans the film directors James Cameron and Neill Blomkamp.
