內容簡介 When 12-year-old Alex is sent to spend the summer in the Rockies with his grandfather, he feels hurt and abandoned. To make matters worse, Grandpa spends most of his time helping with a mysterious construction project deep inside Golden View Mountain. Luckily, Alex is not the only kid on Golden View. He meets Tara, a free-spirited nature lover who shares the secret wonders she has discovered on the mountain. As their friendship grows, Alex begins to realize that there is more to life than hiding within the pages of his books, which have become a refuge since his mother's death. The children spend their days relaxing in hidden meadows, picnicking beneath sparkling waterfalls, and exploring the slopes of Golden View. But when they discover the true nature of Grandpa's work on the mountain, they are terrified: a huge asteroid is on a collision course with Earth, and the adults are frantically creating a shelter to escape the coming disaster! Alex and Tara try to save the project with their resourcefulness and knowledge of the mountain. But even if they succeed, they still face an uncertain future when the meteor strikes. Will they survive the coming impact? How will they cope with living underground for weeks, months, or even years? And what will the world be like when they finally leave the shelter?
