內容簡介 Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a sailor? To live out on the water, to travel to distant places, to get away from the stress and congestion of the rat race? How bad could it be? Eric joins his first ship with those same thoughts but quickly learns that it is not at all what he expected. It takes days of sleep deprivation to adapt to the noise and inhuman schedule of the watch system that he is now part of. What follows is a journey through all the Great Lakes where he is awed by their vastness and beauty, particularly Lake Superior. His forced relationships with the wacky mix of crewmembers are extremely good or bad. All this while confined in a floating, moving prison, a ship that is about to be scrapped so is neglected and pushed hard for company profit. The result is a disaster, an engine room fire, leaving the ship powerless and dead and rolling dangerously in a storm. The crew fights for their lives and Eric plays an important role and discovers what he is made of.
