內容簡介
內容簡介 múm co-founder Gyda Valtysdottir releases her debut solo offering Epicycle through figureight records in Fall 2017.Epicycle was released initially (CD-only, Iceland-only) through Reykjavik label Smekkleysa, and received weighty prizes at the Icelandic Music Awards. This new issue is its first international and vinyl release.Support has already come from Stereogum, who premiered the first album track. Plenty more key targets across press and radio are expected to follow suit as the release date approaches. The album and campaign is represented worldwide by ForceField PR (Sufjan Stevens, WHY?, St. Vincent).Epicycle collects Gyda's new and unique visions of existing classical pieces, covering a range broad enough to include the great master Sergei Prokofiev, through to 20th century experimental music theorist Harry Partch, via the "Seikilos Epitaph" - the oldest known surviving musical composition in the world.Gyda's background comprises both indie music (she co-founded the hugely acclaimed múm in her teens) and classical (a student of the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St. Petersburg, she holds a Double Masters in music).Icelandic Music Awards Winner: Best Album"Eerie and spacious, holding onto the supernatural quality that has always characterized múm's work while spinning off in new (or, more specifically, old) directions" Stereogum"It's evocative, moving, and reminds you that the power of music transcends time and space." Reykjavík Grapevine"Eins og fallegur draumur [Like a beautiful dream]." Morgunblaðið (Iceland)
