A wide array of pictures is used to accompany the text so that learners may see what is being described. (2) Pronunciation A detailed introduction of Chinese pronunciation combined with oral and listening exercises are available to help learners learn pronunciation. Tongue twisters, songs, and rhymes are incorporated to make learning pronunciation interesting. (3) Classroom Expressions A simulated Q&A session between the teacher and students is provided so that learners can submerge themselves in an all-Chinese environment. (4) Chinese Characters These introductions to the evolution of Chinese characters, radicals, and the principles for Traditional and Simplified text are given systematically for learners to better understand how Chinese characters are formed and the meanings behind them. This understanding will also aid learners in preparing to write Chinese later on. Pictures of vocabulary items are presented in a situational setting so learners can learn new words through grouping. (2) Practical Sentences Important sentence patterns are highlighted so that learners can study important sentence structures more easily. (3) Language Patterns Grammar is introduced systematically and through sentence patterns. Simple explanations are followed by example sentences, with summaries provided in Language Notes. The Comparison section highlights the differences between Chinese and English. (4) Dialogue All dialogues have been filmed and made into short video clips for learners to watch and role play to online. (5) Culture Window Cultural knowledge to do with each lesson’s theme is introduced. Culture Window helps learners learn more than just the language itself. (6) Language Practice Exercises for new sentence patterns include oral practice, writing exercises, and drilling. Comprehension exercises are also included. (7) Communication Communication exercises focus mainly on situational errands. Learners may attempt these exercises by following the step-by-step suggestions provided, or coming up with their own dialogues. Use of realia is incorporated into these exercises so that learners may use what they know in looking for answers and solving problems. (8) Chinese Characters In each unit, a Chinese character’s origins, evolution, and stroke order are explained.
